Basic requirements for importing animals to Oman:
Obtaining a PRIOR veterinary permit (before the arrival of the pet) to import pets (dogs and cats)، through the Customs Bayan System, accompanied by the following documents:
A record of the pet’s immunizations, from the date of its birth.
Photo of the pet on the immunization record.
Animal identification (microchipping). Your pet must have a microchip that complies with the international standard ISO 11784/11785 (15-digit). The chip is necessary for identifying the animal and must be indicated in all documents.
Vaccination. Pets must be vaccinated against rabies after 12 weeks of age and the vaccination must be valid for the last 12 months. Proof of vaccination is:
International vaccination certificate,
Veterinary passport with vaccination marks.
Rabies Titer Test. Blood test to calibrate rabies antibodies, from an accredited laboratory. This blood test result may also be required, when your pet returns to your country. Oman is on the list of countries with a high risk of rabies. Some countries require this test at least 3 months before travel. To draw a blood sample to calibrate the immune bodies 21-30 days after the last rabies immunization (RNATT or FAVN).
The period from the date of issuance of the results of the RNATT or FAVN should not be less than three months, and not more than 12 months when exporting the pet.
Veterinary certificate/certificate of health of your pet
No later than 14 days before travel, an accredited veterinarian must issue an international veterinary certificate. It contains:
- Information about the owner,
- Travel route,
- Pet details (breed, age, weight, color),
- Vaccination and treatment information,
- Confirmation of the animal’s health.
Oman allows pets to be carried on board passenger flights through Muscat International Airport, provided that the animal is small in size and weighs no more than 8 kilograms.
The following dog breeds are prohibited from being imported into Oman:
- PITBULL
- STAFFORSHIRE TERRIER
- AMERICAN BULLY
- MASTIF
- FILA BARASILERIO
- DOG ARGENTIO
- JAPANESE TOSA
- ROTTWEILER
- DOBERMAN PINSCHER
- PRESA CANARIA
- BOXER
- BOERBOEL
- CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD DOG
- ANATOLIAN KARABASH
- GREAT DANE
- Any mixed breed of above mentioned breeds of dogs
Restricted Breeds: Certain dog breeds are restricted or prohibited from entering.
Quarantine: Pets may be quarantined if authorities are not satisfied with their health or documentation.
Port of Entry: Pets must enter through Muscat International Airport.
Other Pets: For pets other than cats and dogs, please contact the Animal Health Authority for requirements.
Dogs residing in the Sultanate of Oman for more than 6 months must be registered with the Department of Quarantine and Food Safety at Muscat International Airport.
