If you are planning a trip to Egypt with your pet, please note that not all pets are allowed to be imported into this country.


Prohibited animals


Birds, invertebrates, tropical fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals such as rodents and rabbits.

Basic requirements for importing animals to Egypt:

  1. Animal identification (microchipping). Your pet must have a microchip that complies with the international standard ISO 11784/11785 (15-digit). The chip is necessary for identifying the animal and must be indicated in all documents.
  2. Vaccination
    Your pet must be vaccinated against rabies no earlier than 30 days before entry and no later than 11 months before travel. Proof of vaccination is:
    International vaccination certificate,
    Veterinary passport with vaccination marks.

Additional mandatory vaccines:
For dogs: distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza.
For cats: rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia.

  1. Rabies Titer Test
    This test is not required to enter Egypt, but it may be required when your pet returns to your country. Some countries require this test at least 3 months before travel.
  2. Veterinary certificate/certificate of health of your pet
    No later than 14 days before travel, an accredited veterinarian must issue an international veterinary certificate. It contains:
  • Information about the owner,
  • Travel route,
  • Pet details (breed, age, weight, color),
  • Vaccination and treatment information,
  • Confirmation of the animal’s health.

If all the above requirements are met, quarantine is not required for your pet upon entry to Egypt.

Transporting animals to Egypt by plane:

Your pet can fly:

  • In the cabin (depending on the airline’s rules),
  • In baggage,
  • In the cargo hold.

Before the trip, notify the veterinary service at Cairo Airport about the arrival of your pet.

With pets from Egypt


Before departure, you must visit the Veterinary Quarantine Service of Egypt with:

  • Passport,
  • Veterinary certificate,
  • Vaccination certificate.

There you will be given an export certificate (valid for 30 days). In urgent cases, it can be issued at the airport a few hours before departure.
