Document requirements

Identification:
The animal must be identified by a microchip (transponder) or have a tattoo applied before 3 July 2011.

Vaccination:
Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies, with the vaccination having been given at least 21 days before entry.

Veterinary certificate:
For non-commercial movement to Denmark, as to another EU Member State, an Animal Health Certificate is required.

Antibody test:
A serological test to determine the titre of antibodies to rabies may be required.

Vaccination requirements

Pets must be vaccinated against rabies, and vaccination is only possible from the age of 12 weeks.
After vaccination, at least 21 days must pass for the vaccine to take effect. The antibody test, which will be mandatory from 2024, can be done 21 days after vaccination (results are available in about 14 days), and then the three-month quarantine period set by EU rules begins to ensure that the animal does not show symptoms of rabies.

Special requirements for birds:
Birds must be kept in isolation for 30 days after entry into the country.

Age Restrictions

The minimum age for importing pets is generally 7 months.

Prohibited dog breeds

Dog breeds that are prohibited from being imported into the country are:
Pit Bull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American Bulldog, Boerboel, Kangal, Central Asian Shepherd, Caucasian Shepherd, South Russian Shepherd, Tornjak and Sharplaninac.

Exception: Dogs of the specified breeds may be transported in transit through the territory of Denmark.
Denmark does not have a ban on the import of specific cat breeds.

How to Travel with a Dangerous Breed Dog

Transit

If the transportation is carried out through countries that are “red” for rabies, the owner or authorized person must provide a written transit declaration that the animal, during its journey through the territory of these countries, did not have contact with animals that were not vaccinated against rabies, and that it did not leave the vehicle or airport.

If you have come to Denmark for a long time

No more than five animals (dogs, cats or ferrets) can be imported per person.
Registration:
If you plan to stay in Denmark with your dog for more than 4 weeks, you must register it with the Danish Dog Register

Additional requirements:
Owners may be required to fill out a Puppy/Kitten Declaration

Document requirements

Health certificate:
Not required. You need to get a stamp on the clinical examination at a veterinary clinic, if necessary, you can do antiparasitic treatment.

Certificate for departure:
Obtain at a veterinary clinic together with the stamp on the clinical examination of the animal.

Certificate validity:
10 days for departure outside the country, then the certificate is valid until the end of the route, unless otherwise stated. That is, you need to get the certificate 10 days or less before the start of the trip.

Rabies titers:
Needed for departure to a country with a red rabies status and returning back to the EU, as well as to Israel, China, Turkey, South Korea without returning.

No own laboratories. There is currently no exact information on where and how to donate blood for titers.
