I traveled by air with my cat to Germany from Canada . With the required approved CFIA form signed by a vet for approval. I need to know if I will need any other documents for our return flight back to Germany??

    1. Lana

Hey! So you’re heading back to Germany with your cat, right? Good news – it’s usually a bit simpler than the first trip.

Since Germany is in the EU, your cat will need a valid EU Pet Passport (not just that CFIA form from Canada) . The rabies vaccination must be up to date and your cat needs a readable microchip .

The main thing to watch is the timing – make sure you get that EU passport issued before you fly back, ideally from a vet in Germany if that’s where you’re based .

Basically: microchip, rabies shot, EU passport. Then you’re good to go. Safe travels back with your kitty!

We have a three yrpear old west highland white terrier. He was given a 3 year rabies vaccination last year. He does NOT have a microchip. What will we need to do to bring him with us? Will we have difficulties returning to the united states?

    1. Lana

You need to microchip your dog and then vaccinate it against rabies.

To and from Canada is the Vaccination record only required for dogs?

    1. Lana

No, vaccination records are not only for dogs, but the rules are very different for other animals.Rabies vaccination is generally NOT required for cats entering Canada from the United States.
However, proof of a current rabies vaccination is highly recommended (and may be required by some airlines or provinces).
