Vueling Pet Policy: How to transport a pet 2026

Published in 2025 / Updated in 2026

Vueling is a cabin-only airline for pets. This means your pet stays right with you, tucked under the seat. There is no cargo or checked hold option, so if your dog is the size of a pony, they’ll have to stay home and guard the house.

The Guest List: Who’s Invited?

Vueling accepts a delightful mini-menagerie on board:

  • Dogs & Cats: The classic travel companions.
  • Birds: Almost all types (except birds of prey).
  • Turtles & Tortoises: For the slow-and-steady travelers.
  • The “Twin” Hack: You can carry two pets in the same carrier if they are the same species and/or from the same litter, provided they don’t exceed the weight limit.

The Cost of the “Tail-Wind”

  • Domestic Flights (Spain): From €50.00.
  • International & Canary Islands: From €60.00.
  • Booking Tip: You can add your pet during the online booking process by selecting the Basic fare (Domestic) or Fly Light bundle (International). It’s one of the few airlines that makes booking a pet as easy as ordering a pizza!

Important Restrictions & “No-Fly” Zones

  • The Weight Limit: Your pet + their carrier must not exceed 8 kg (17.6 lbs).
    • Note: While some older sources mention 10 kg, Vueling’s current 2026 standard for most flights is 8 kg. Always verify your specific aircraft at checkout!
  • Capacity: Only 5 pets are allowed per flight. If the flight is operated by Iberia, that limit drops to just 2 pets.
  • The “No-Go” Destinations: You cannot fly with a pet in the cabin to or from the United Kingdom, Ireland, or Iceland.
  • Banned Species: No rodents (hamsters/rabbits), ferrets, snakes, or livestock.

The “Apartment” (Carrier) Specs

Your pet’s carrier must be a non-rigid (soft-sided) bag. Hard crates are a “no-go” for the cabin.

  • Maximum Dimensions: 45 x 39 x 21 cm (approx. 17.7 x 15.3 x 8.2 inches).
  • The Rule: Your pet must stay completely inside for the entire flight. No “poking the nose out” for snacks!

The “Paws-port” Paperwork

Don’t get stuck at the gate! Ensure you have:

  1. Microchip: Mandatory for all dogs and cats.
  2. Pet Passport: An official EU Pet Passport issued by a vet, showing a valid Rabies Vaccination administered at least 21 days (but no more than 12 months) before the flight.
  3. Check-In: You cannot check in online. You must visit the check-in counter on the day of the flight to show your documents and get your assigned window seat.

💡 Expert Tips for a “Vueling” Good Time

The “Scent” Strategy: Since your pet has to stay in the bag, put a familiar-smelling T-shirt inside to keep them calm during takeoff.

Seat Selection: For safety, pet parents cannot sit in the first row or emergency exits. You’ll be assigned a window seat so your pet isn’t in the way of the drink trolley.

Snack Attack: Vueling often has a “pet-friendly” section in their inflight menu featuring snacks for dogs. Check the back of the magazine!
