Pet Documentation Requirements
A pet passport issued by a veterinarian that lists vaccinations (your pet’s rabies vaccination must be current and not expired) and the general health of the animal.
A legible tattoo or electronic identification system (microchip, transponder)
In-Cabin Policy – cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, birds
Permissible weight in the cabin – weighing up to 10 kg (including carrier and food) on flights within Italy and up to 10 kg on all other flights
Сost of transportation in the cabin – €70-250 EUR
Cargo Policy – container size may vary depending on the aircraft.
Permissible weight in cargo – maximum weight (including carrier and food): up to 75 kg
Cost of transportation in cargo/aircraft hold – €83-325 EUR
Approved pet carrier sizes – the dimensions of the carrier must not exceed the following values:
24 cm in height
40 cm in length
30 cm in width (20 cm on international and intercontinental flights)

Effective October 26, 2025, ITA Airways will no longer allow the carriage of brachycephalic cats and dogs as checked baggage.
Brachycephalic dogs are still permitted to be transported in the cabin with a total weight of up to 10 kg (including the carrier) (up to 12 kg on domestic flights within Italy).
