Flying to the land of K-Dramas and Kimchi? If you’re hopping on Air Busan with your furry BFF in 2026, you’re in for a “paws-itive” experience—but only if you follow the rules! Air Busan is famous for being pet-friendly (they even have pet uniforms!), but they don’t mess around when it comes to safety and paperwork.
Whether you’re heading to the beaches of Haeundae or the neon lights of Seoul, Air Busan is a top choice for pet parents. However, as of January 1, 2026, there have been some major changes you need to know about!
Breaking News: The 2026 “No-Cargo” Update
Starting this year, Air Busan has discontinued checked pet transport (cargo/hold) on all flights. If your pet is too big for the cabin, they’ll have to sit this one out or find another airline. The sky is now reserved for the “petite” jet-setters!
1. In-Cabin Travelers: The “Elite 10”
Air Busan allows small dogs, cats, and birds to join you in the cabin. They recently expanded their capacity, allowing up to 10 pets per flight—but they fill up faster than a K-Pop concert, so book early!
- Who’s Invited? Dogs, cats, and pet birds only. (Sorry, no “support” hamsters).
- The Weight Limit: Your pet + their carrier must weigh no more than 7kg (15 lbs). Note: Some recent updates suggest a bump to 9kg on specific domestic routes—check your booking for the latest “scale-tipping” news!
- Carrier Dimensions: Must be within 40 x 25 x 23 cm.
- Pro-Tip: Use a soft-sided carrier; they are more “squishable” under the seat and much more comfortable for your feline or canine co-pilot.
- The Cost: * Domestic: Approx. $20 USD (20,000 KRW).
- International: Between $80 – $150 USD.
2. The “Bureau-cat-ic” Requirements
Don’t get stuck at the gate! You must arrive at the check-in counter at least 2 hours early to sign a “Written Oath” and present your paperwork:
- Health Certificate & Vaccination Proof: Standard for all routes.
- Quarantine Certificate: You must visit the Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Quarantine Headquarters at the airport on the day of departure.
- The Japan Warning: If you’re flying to Japan, start your prep at least 14 days in advance to secure your National Quarantine Service certificate. Japan is strict—don’t let a typo ruin your trip!
- Age Check: Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old.
🚫 3. The “No-Go” List: Restrictions & Forbidden Breeds
Air Busan takes safety seriously. Some pets are simply not allowed to fly:
- Banned Destinations: No pets allowed on flights to/from Bali or Hong Kong due to local import laws.
- The “Summer Embargo”: Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds are restricted from July 1 to September 30 due to respiratory risks in the heat.
- Forbidden Breeds: For safety, the following breeds (and their mixes) cannot board:
- Tosa Inu
- American Pit Bull Terrier
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier
- Rottweiler
- Health Status: No pregnant pets, “ferocious” animals, birds of prey, or pets under sedation. If your pet is smelling a bit… “ripe,” they may also be denied boarding!
